Theme Based Activities: Taking
Care of Me!
Health and Hygiene
Healthy
Choice Sort (BM6, Boardmaker Plus):
This interactive page let's students sort
healthy activities from unhealthy ones. Students click and drag items to
the correct location. Activities and items correspond to Sammy the Slob,
by Kathy Staugler. This book is from
Unique
Learning Systems Curriculum,
January 2008, Intermediate Level, Lesson 4.
Piggy
Washes Up (BM6):
PCS sentence strips to adapt the book, Piggy Washes Up by
Peggy Thompson. This is a great little book to talk about items and actions in
the bathroom. Vocabulary includes, "brush," "potty," "toilet paper," "dry
off," and more. This adaptation is our new intern, Jill McCain's
first work with Boardmaker! Thanks Jill!

Hygiene Bingo (BM5):
A bingo game including a master page and 3 bingo
boards for practicing hygiene related vocabulary in a game format.
Around the House: In My Bathroom (BM6, Boardmaker Plus):
An interactive set of 8 pages that asks students
to locate items in the bathroom to take care of themselves. Questions
include "What do you use to brush your teeth?" "What do you use to dry off?" and
more. When students move the correct item to the answer box, a short
action animation rewards their response. Download the zipped file and
begin with the Bathroom Main board.
Hygiene Explore (CS-3): A simple
explore activity using hygiene items- soap, toothbrush & toothpaste etc. This
activity has on-screen menus for access with touchscreen or mouse. The activity
includes quizzes for item name and movement (adjective) names. This activity is
designed to compliment the RAPS story "Going to A Party" by Caroline Musselwhite.
Movement symbols have been changed from the original Explore activity to match
the describing pages of Dynavox's Gateway software.
Mrs. Wishy-Washy Writing (CS-3): EZ writing activity to allow
children to recreate the story of Mrs. Wishy-Washy. Word order is errorless but
students can demonstrate comprehension of simple logical sequencing.
Spider
On The Floor (CS-3): A Super-EZ Writing Activity based on Raffi's
song and board book of the same name. Written for kids at a VERY early writing
level this errorless activity ensures everyone can participate. "Writing"
requires only that the student push a symbol button and make an occasional,
error-free choice. Mild to severely "handicapped" students have the ability to
bring home their writing and share a favorite story with their family. Access
with touchwindow, mouse or intellikeys (overlay included in download).
Spider
On Me! (CS-3): A companion activity for Raffi's board book
"Spider On The Floor" this activity lets kids select where to put a spider on
the boy's body. Vocabulary targeted includes: foot, belly, neck, head and leg.
Select spider first then choose a body part from the menu. Intellikeys body part
overlay included but spider has to be selected on the screen.
