Speech Language Evaluation  

Comprehensive evaluation of receptive/expressive language, functional language, articulation, voice, fluency and oral-motor functioning.  Evaluation consists of direct assessment, record review and partner interview.  

Speech Language Therapy  

Hands-on treatment of language, reading, functional communication, early interaction, academic language, articulation, voice and fluency delays/disorders.  A physician approved Individual Plan of Treatment is developed based on formal evaluation.  The Plan of Treatment is used to direct therapeutic targets and activities.  Includes consultation with the child’s academic and home teams.  

 

Evaluation of Voice Prosthesis (SGD) or Augmentative Communication  

Direct assessment of need for augmentative and alternative forms of communication for persons who are non-verbal or low verbal:  people for whom speech is not currently meeting their communication needs.  Assessment includes state of the art communication device trials, light technology solutions, partner and patient interview and record review.  Service includes funding assistance if a device is recommended.  Funding assistance includes report generation, acquisition of necessary documentation (quotes, prescriptions and insurance information) from physician, families and manufacturers, mailing packet to manufacturer and follow-up with manufacturer.   

Modification/Treatment and Intervention Planning for Individual Augmentative Communication System

Augmentative communication device programming and partner/user functional training.  Includes state-of-the-art direct therapy strategies to improve user skills and partner strategies; adaptation of materials to increase familiarity of symbolic communication symbols; planning sessions to ensure individualized vocabulary systems and, functional targets and outcomes.  Intervention Planning is based on a compilation of current research and theory.  Intervention Planning is available on-site to ensure effective planning for functional communication acquisition; taking advantage of team member knowledge of the users strengths and needs.  Team members are taught specific strategies for teaching AAC skills to the device user.  

Occupational Therapy Evaluation & Treatment

Occupational Therapy services at DTA teach a wide range of skills.  We are so excited to offer specialization in Handwriting without Tears, The Alert Program, The Listening Program, sensory integration, activities of daily living and prevocational skill development.

Balanced Literacy Exploration

A computer-based exploration of literacy skills including phonemic awareness, sight word reading, reading comprehension and self-selected reading.  Sessions are conducted by trained staff using the Balanced Literacy software from Intellitools.  

Academic Materials Programming, Customization/Classroom Setup Consultation

Classroom-based consultation and materials creation focusing on assistive technology, literacy, augmentative communication and communication-based behavioral solutions.  Services provided by experienced AT and AAC professionals  

 

 

Assistive Technology Assessment, Implementation and Tutoring

 Individualized assessment, implementation and tutoring for special needs students.  Tutoring includes state of the art computer applications and techniques.   Services are provided by a licensed, highly experienced teacher with special education and assistive technology specializations.  On-site assistive technology consultation is available from members of our entire team.  Assessment is designed to offer families home/clinic based supports to complement educational objectives.

Teacher/Staff Training and Workshops

A variety of customizable workshops and trainings designed to increase the skills and knowledge of partners and teachers of persons using assistive technology and augmentative communication.  Workshops currently include:  AAC/AT In The Classroom; Dynamic Kids:  Using Dynamic Display Communication with Persons with Significant Cognitive Impairment; Boardmaker and Intellitools software training; AAC and Literacy; Computer Applications for Literacy Learning; AAC Assessment and Intervention Planning, and; Alternate Access for the Computer. Workshops are constantly being updated and customizable workshops are available on request.  Half-day, whole day and multi-day workshops are available.
