School Safety – Washing Hands is a hands-on AAC Core Word Experiment that teaches students how soap helps remove germs and keep everyone safe at school. Students trace a hand, add water and pepper “germs,” then touch the water with a soapy finger to watch the germs move away.
The book includes clear visual directions, repeated core word practice, simple science vocabulary, and picture-supported discussion questions. The included communication board gives students a way to participate, comment, answer questions, and share what they notice during the experiment.
Teacher support pages are also included to help staff choose target words, model AAC during the lesson, support student communication, and connect the activity to ELA standards through speaking, listening, reading, writing, vocabulary, comprehension, sequencing, and student response.
This resource is ideal for special education classrooms, AAC users, early elementary students, and school safety or hygiene lessons.
